Messebo has Built a new school
In line with the EFFORT programs in public infrastructure and socio-economic supports, Messebo Cement Factory is participating intensely to integrate itself with the society. Before two years or so, the factory built a new school with ETB 17 million in Latchi village about 5 km away from Messebo Cement Factory towards Mekelle city.
The Factory built this secondary school with full equipment for the benefit of the community. But the community has also big responsibility in keeping up the school a modern school. You have to work hard to make the school a model. This school is communal property which the residences can use it properly. However, you have to take care of the school as your personal property. This is the place where your children are shaped and it is this place which makes your children knowledgeable so that they could help their nation in the process of socio-economic development.
- Messebo Cement Factory has donated 600 quintal of Cement and ETB 180,000 for learning equipment of Mariam Dahan Primary School.
- It has donated cement ranging from 20-120 quintal to some zonal administration offices
- It rebuilds a school at kebele three, Aider Wereda
- For Building of Wajirat Secondary School 1850 quintal is given.
- EdagaHamus Secondary School has been given 50 quintal of cement for refurbishment.
- Has built full secondary school in Mekele amounting to ETB 12 million is on progress and ETB 3.5 million was allocated in the budget year of 2009-10
- Has funded preparatory school with ETB 4.5 million and currently 1.5 million Birr is already disbursed
- Has supported for Wajirat union of youths on bee farming with ETB 200,000
- Has building Primary school in EndertaWereda located around Akheza with ETB 450,000
- Has built waterwheel with ETB 750,000 in Mariam Dahan village
- Has built water well around Wajirat with ETB 500,000
- Has provided students at Mariam Dahan with school uniform
Messebo Cement Factory has been incapacitating its human resources to endeavour the employees and to effectively utilize their capability in the production process. Maximum production is mainly achieved as the result of hard effort and determination of employees without which the stated plan becomes fruitless. Hence, Messebo Cement Factory has very much desire to the implementation of capacity building for it believes that human resource investment is the sole of productivity enhancement and sustainable strength for the of incremental development productivity. The employees in the company are expected to up grade their knowledge and skill so that they can be competent in utilizing the knowledge of ever increasing technology, and cope up with the sophisticated environment to work with. Messebo Cement Factory provides its employees with opportunities to obtain what they usually inspire as professional workers.
The management inspires to own such capable work force for the sum up advantage of both the company and the employees which is paramount important for the parties as out come is evaluated on the accumulative effect of the productivity and that is profitability for the company. Messebo Cement Factory is eager in implementing such important investments on human resources in short and long terms. Since the past four years, Messebo Cement Factory has been providing the employees with different types of training and incentives. Hence, many of the work forces whether they are from production line, service area or from high level management, are using the granted advantages. Last year, for instance, more than seventy work forces attained in different educational levels and those who are resuming the educational advantage are indicated in the table below .
This data does not include the short term up grading conducted training sessions, out side and in house, training by different practitioners from colleges and Universities and consulting firms.
Some of the beneficial who have up graded their education are already documented in the company archives, and those whose graduation was in last July are presented in memorial of their efforts.
Messebo Cement Factory has been implementing (ISO 14001) Environment Management System since the past several months, and has achieved tremendous results on the program. It has developed several procedures and guidelines to implement the overall project plan. Messebo Cement Factory has established policy on Environment Management System for the mitigating of aspects as per the significance stated in all the working areas.
As there ought to be roles and responsibilities to keep the environment free from any solid and liquid wastes, or even, air pollutants which made the surroundings unfriendly or completely polluted, the company should establish environment management system to enhance the processes and activities of every department. The aspects of the departments have already been identified and some have even communicated. The departments that have identified their aspects and significance are the quarry and auto garage, Crusher and raw mill, the coal and kiln process, cement mill and packing, and engineering. Some other departments will soon begin to implement the program, too, as this is mandatory to be certified by the authorized bodies.
As far as the environment management system is concerned, the identified aspects and significance in the company are oil spoilage, dust and carbon emission, hard wastes and sound pollution as well. Based on these aspects the company has been developing objectives and strategies to over come the existing problems. Cleaning of the compound and planting plants to break the wind is one instance to make the place of work convenient to the workers and the customers.
The company, Messebo Cement Factory, has seen the advantage of inducing environment management system to the overall work process in order to enhance availability and productivity. Since the launching of the programmed a lot of promising works have been accomplished. It has now mitigated the dust emission that was escaping for more than four to five years as the result of the mechanical failure in the production process .There was high dust emission and the communities were complaining. Hence, analyzing the situation and deciding to give immediate solution to the compliance Messebo Cement Factory has planted a bag filter project worth of seventy eight million birr and it totally has mitigated the problem. This of course has shown immense result in the increase of production.
